elayne trakand is by the grace of the light, queen of andor and cairhien, defender of the realm, protector of the people, high seat of house trakand, and aes sedai of the green ajah.
elayne was born to queen morgase trakand and prince taringail damodred, and was daughter-heir of andor from birth. as was tradition, she was sent to the white tower for her education as daughter-heir, where she was enrolled as a novice after it was discovered that she had the potential to be one of the most powerful channelers of the era. she grew close to egwene al'vere, nynaeve al'meara and min farshaw, and had their first encounter with the seanchan and black ajah in falme. elayne was raised to accepted at the behest of the amyrlin seat, siuan sanche, and decided to hunt the black ajah in tear with egwene and nynaeve.in the stone of tear, egwene declared her love to rand al'thor, the dragon reborn. she and nynaeve then ventured to tanchico to save the panarch of tarabon from the black ajah. the pair subsequently made their way to salidar while chased by moghedien, and elayne was forced to bond birgitte silverbow as her warder after she was ripped from tel'aran'rhiod. in salidar, elayne discovered her talent for ter'angreal creation and made an a'dam to leash moghedien, where she and nynaeve had the forsaken teach them about lost weaves from the age of legends. she was raised to full aes sedai by egwene as rebel amyrlin, and though andor was in chaos after the presumed death of elayne's mother, she chose to seek the bowl of the winds in order to combat the unnatural seasons.in ebou dar, elayne worked with a group of aes sedai, kin, windfinders and one wise one in order to use the bowl of the winds and defeat the seanchan. with her mission complete, she returned to caemlyn to claim the throne, and although she secured the capital, many houses would not support her due to her link with the white tower, and the perceived tyranny of morgase in her last year of reign. before she secured the lion throne through her skill with daes dae'mar, she bonded aviendha as her first-sister, and bonded rand as her second warder, falling pregnant with his twins. elayne, min, and aviendha all chose to love rand and to respect each other's love for him.after her coronation as queen of andor, she was also accepted as queen of cairhien due to her paternal ancestry of the royal damodred line, and to her great surprise, she learned that her mother still lived, but had privately chosen to abdicate to elayne following her escape from rahvin. as the last battle approached, elayne was the first ruler to sign the dragon's peace, and was given command of the forces of all nations of the westlands. elayne was greatly wounded by an attack led by darkfriends, but was saved when the horn of valere was sounded.
